Arabic Legal Knowledge Evaluation in LLMs The assessment of legal knowledge in large language models (LLMs) has mainly focused on English. However, there has been a significant gap in evaluating Arabic legal knowledge. ArabLegalEval aims to address this gap, providing a crucial benchmark for evaluating LLMs' capabilities in Arabic legal contexts. Addressing the Gap LLMs have seen great advancements in various natural language processing tasks. However, evaluating their performance in legal contexts, especially for non-English languages like Arabic, has been limited. ArabLegalEval creates a benchmark dataset to assess LLMs' proficiency in understanding and processing Arabic legal texts. Creating a Robust Benchmark ArabLegalEval employs a systematic approach to create and validate a benchmark dataset for assessing Arabic legal knowledge in LLMs. It includes tasks derived from Saudi legal documents and synthesized questions to evaluate a wide range of LLMs and identify their strengths and weaknesses in legal reasoning capabilities. Insights and Future Enhancements The ArabLegalEval benchmark offers valuable insights into LLMs' performance on Arabic legal tasks and highlights the need for prompt optimization, few-shot learning, and refined evaluation techniques. Future improvements aim to incorporate additional Saudi legal documents, expanding the benchmark's scope.
